TECHNICAL MANAGER Job
Position Summary This position scopes, estimates, defines delivery approaches, and leads development projects for medium to large software development projects. The technical manager is accountable for the functional designs and adherence to corporate software development methodologies, as well as coordination across all technical resources throughout the lifecycle of a software development project. Primary Responsibilities Leads the collaboration with the business and/or external clients to define scope of a new project, documents risk and assumptions, develops the delivery approach, and estimates cost and timings Accountable for the functional systems design: Leads teams of 3 – 8 resources through all phases of the systems development lifecycle Leads and facilitates system design workshops with the business community to solicit and document business and functional requirements (e.g. Use Case Creation). Researches, reviews and analyzes existing processes and develops strategies for enhancements. Accountable for the accuracy and consistency in development artifacts Works with the Sales organization in support of the sales process, including responses to RFPs and the development of new products based on client needs Responsible for facilitating/brokering communication between the project customers (Production Strategy and Sales) and the development team. Works closely with the enterprise project management offices for overall coordination of the project. Assists with research on software and hardware products. Supports the roll out of software development methodology enhancements to reduce overall cost and time to delivery of software products. Secondary Responsibilities Performs other duties as requested by management. Required to be on-call as needed for emergency situations. Relationships/Contacts Interacts with Application Architects, Developers, Project Managers, Application Development & Support, team members. Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors’ degree in business administration, computer science or management information systems with at least five to seven years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (systems consulting experience desired). At least five years experience in large scale system implementation efforts following a standard software development lifecycle approach (RUP desired.) Has lead 2 – 3 full lifecycle system development implementations Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling/mapping, methodology development and data modeling (requirements management with Use Cases desired). Very strong oral and written communications skills. Strong facilitation skills Excellent organization and management skills Extensive knowledge of industry standard development methodologies and technologies.
