DATA ANALYST Job
Position Summary Primary responsibility is to conduct analysis on large volumes of data to look for quality indicator and trending indicators. Responsible for performing root cause analysis on data and process issues. The secondary responsibilities include performing analysis of business activities and functions and guiding the subsequent implementation of the improvement activities. Primary Responsibilities • Performs standard data analysis activities of large volumes of data to determine trends and potential data issues. • Coordinates estimation activities to determine how new data files and sources will be processed in existing system. • Performs root cause analysis on internal and external identified issues. • Responsible for the evaluation and resolution of data loading exceptions. • Responsible for the coordination of data updates as a result of reference data changes. • Responsible for the monitoring of trends in data volumes (batch/files level), data quality, and system performance, and escalates as appropriate for proactive handling. • Responsible for the setup of defined data quality thresholds and for the quality and profiling of data. • Reviews data metrics for completeness of values, consistency of values over time, validity of business rule conformance, precision, and timeliness. • Monitors exceptions logged in the system and takes required steps to resolve the exception. Secondary Responsibilities • Performs other duties as requested by management. Relationships/Contacts • This position requires a strong ability to interact with team members as well as interact effectively with internal customer groups. Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have any leadership or supervisory responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with at least three years related job experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. • In depth working knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, XML. (Desired but not required) • Experience managing large volumes of data. • Experience with data warehousing concepts and practices. (Desired but not required) • Previous experience working with relational database systems and SQL. (Desired but not required) • Understanding of process flows and business rules. • Strong conceptual thinking. • Ability to effectively communicate technical or abstract concepts. • Ability to document processes and procedures. • Understands metadata concepts and is able to incorporate these concepts into projects and practices. • Proficient understanding of multiple data access methods. • Demonstrated ability to analyze and report of detail data attribute trends. • Familiarity with business improvement methodologies and tools and experience in a least one significant process improvement initiative. • Proven problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis. • Strong analytical skills. • Strong attention to detail. • Strong verbal and listening communication skills with proven experience in developing strong customer relationships. • Time management and prioritization skills. • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work well in a team. • Ability to be decisive and take into account consequences of decisions. • Demonstrated positive “can-do” attitude and a drive to always continually improve on current processes and practices.
