    R. L. Polk & Co.

You would think that R. L. Polk & Co, clearly one of Detroit's oldest businesses (founded in Michigan in 1870), would be slow to change, stodgy behind the times...basically no fun at all. Stop by their offices in Southfield and you will see a very different picture. From the beautiful glass sky atrium with multiple waterfalls to the tropical plants, there is a sense of the great outdoors…inside!

Employees may start their morning by working out in the Company's fitness facility which is outfitted with the very latest exercise equipment. It’s all part of our Company Wellness program to help employees stay fit. Whether it’s “Free Fruit Fridays”, Weight Watcher’s classes, personal trainer services, walking events, on-site health fairs, minimal cost flu shots, healthy food potluck gatherings or an Intranet site full of healthy living tips, Polk’s Wellness Committee is doing everything it can to make sure employees stay in good physical shape!

After a work-out, a visit to the Southfield, MI office areas reveals colorful artwork in the hallways as well as free coffee, tea and hot chocolate which are available at one of the many kitchenettes located throughout the complex.

Need your dry cleaning done or a quick bite to eat? The Company makes sure that all sorts of services are available. Even more serious personal needs are covered under the Employee Assistance Program which is available twenty-fours a day, seven days a week. Support is just a phone call away.

For fun, there is a group known as the “FUNATICS” assigned at each North American location. It would be unfair to call them a Committee, because they have as much fun planning creative activities for the Company as the employees have participating. The events run the spectrum from sports-themed gatherings to employee-designed conference room makeovers to celebrations of all sorts.

For example, the organizers of our “March Madness” event randomly assign every employee to a college basketball team to cheer for and the winners receive prizes including Polk apparel. But you don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy the fun at Polk. Recently we held a “Conference Room Makeover” where teams of employees redecorated our conference rooms to the delight of the crowds. And our Ice Cream Social with scoops dished out by managers is a must attend affair for all employees. Our “Holiday” party is a popular event where we invite employees and their spouses/significant others to attend a more formal night of activities. And even our semi-annual employee meetings are packed with fun including trivia contests and more where employees can win great prizes. Regardless of your preference for fun, there is literally something for everyone each month at Polk!

Interested in purchasing a new vehicle? Polk has several vendor programs which offer significant savings on new cars and trucks. Used vehicles more what you are looking for? Free Carfax reports ensure our employees are getting the most trouble-free used vehicles on the road.

Polk employees especially appreciate our full-time casual (jeans and tennis shoes) dress code. When the work gets intense, we make sure to bring in food and the celebrations are frequent. Want to get up to speed on the latest technology? Loads of training is available both on-line and in the classroom. Employee surveys are frequent and managers get the gift of feedback from their direct reports and training is provided for areas of improvement. Focus teams are assembled to address and implement solutions in areas that need improvement.

We are committed to maintaining diversity at all levels throughout our organization and in doing so, we make our company stronger. We look to our employees to share their knowledge and unique perspectives. Our diversity support takes many forms including our two-year sponsorship of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Concert of Colors, which has received rave reviews from our employees.

The Polk family is well known for supporting the communities in which it operates through charitable donations and event sponsorships. These charities and activities may change from year-to-year, but our commitment to corporate citizenship remains constant. In fact, R. L. Polk & Co. has been supporting the United Way for over 50 years and we’ve won several “Gold Achievement” awards for our participation. Not only do we advocate campaign participation but as a company, we encourage volunteerism too because it is our belief that in doing so, we strengthen and enhance our communities… as well as ourselves. Every year, employees at several Polk locations participate in volunteer services. At various times throughout the year, there is a blood drive, a gathering of clothing for the homeless within our community, a fundraising walk for a good cause or a collection for an employee in need.

We also show our appreciation for our employees and their families by hosting annual “Appreciation Day” sponsored events like company paid Detroit Tigers game, outings at the Detroit Zoo, etc. Each year, we induct select employees into our Quarter Century Club which honors those who have achieved 25 years or more service with the company and a luncheon and reception are held in their honor. But you don’t have to spend 25 years at Polk to receive an award. Our Service Award program recognizes employees at five year intervals for their loyalty. Employees are also rewarded with Bonus Buck award certificates which are redeemable in gift cards for going “above and beyond” their job responsibilities. In addition, Polk sponsors other various sales and non-sales performance awards.

Still not convinced? We also offer:

    • Comprehensive benefits for employees and their families
    • Flex work arrangements
    • Profit Sharing
    • Global assignments
    • Telecommuting
    • Internship/cooperative education programs
    • Very generous employee referral bonus awards

    And more!
